The trio of 46 New Hope St. provides such hook and funkiness in their new single “Palaisipan” freshly dropped in digital stores. The song is the fourth release of the group, comprised of singer Meds Rana, bassist Ryan Gonzales and drummer Aaron Dolleton, who likewise does backing vocals.
Meds, who also plays guitars and synth, says he couldn’t ask for a stronger rhythm section with his bandmates, and neither can Widescope Entertainment which publishes and distributes their originals.
Palaisipan alludes to life as a complicated puzzle in that the more one tries to solve it, the more difficult it gets. The idea is inspired by a recurring pattern of conflicting life moments as experienced by Meds himself. For this song, in particular, he looked at the roller coaster of emotions that came when 46 Hope St. was discovered by Widescope Entertainment as he was dealing with family concerns at the same time.
The chorus goes, “Parang palaisipang ayaw magpalutas ang aking buhay / Ang hanap ko lang naman ay kasagutan.”
The answer comes in its musical arrangement and overall recording production for the discerning ears that make the song strongly present and empowering.
Palaisipan took shape at the Big Baby Studio, with the recording engineered, mixed and mastered by the band’s technically gifted collaborator Peavey Nicolas.
The song lyrically stands on a couple of short verses that sound poetic and intriguingly relatable. The first verse states, “Tuwing may nangyayaring mabuti sa buhay/ Di ko naman maramdaman dahil may gulong sumasabay.” The latter verse notes, “Laging may dahilan para magalit. Ngunit may paraan upang mapawi / Ang nasa isipan lumalagi ang siyang sa buhay mo maghahari.”
This new single adds to the fast-growing catalog, which includes “Parisukat At Bilog”, “Bituin,” and “Bago Matulog.” Indeed, a lot of exciting sounds and ideas are floating around the group’s home base.
Available in all streaming platforms of note, Palaisipan promises to be a track that’s both a deserving study for critics and a source of feel-good audio vibes for listeners. And it is this duality that has given the group its fast-rising trademark.
The group’s fans will agree, to elaborate, that the trio always puts in interesting bits in their recordings, such as in Bago Matulog, with the song opening and ending with the same strong line. From there, listeners can expect that everything in between is a stretch of wonderful music and a particular message that goes well together.
The group shares they anchored Bago Matulog on a fine couplet that expresses the song’s crystal-clear theme. The track dropped in July across digital music stores and caught the attention of music critics, always waiting for the next best act to come out of nowhere.
Ultimately, what makes these Southern Manila musicians stand out is their ability to sonorously capture the difference between this year’s prevailing mood and last year’s general dreadful feeling. They said they were “inspired by the newfound hope of being able to look forward to a new morning after experiencing the darkest of dawns.”
“Of course, that darkest of dawns could only be the year 2020, when the world was forced to lock down cities and survive the onslaught of a virus, which the wrapping up year in our midst addresses with a newfound hope through community vaccinations,” they ended.
