Some distinctive voices have enough charm you can expect them to get out of the shadows of their glorious past.
Music industry insiders expect that Joey Generoso’s new single “Letting You Go” is a breakthrough for the former Side A lead singer. The ballad has all the elements that helped the singer establish himself as one of the most admired recording and live acts in Philippine music.
“Letting You Go,” released on digital platforms on Valentine’s Day and composed by Ian Tan, pulls heartstrings in ways Joey G. is known for.
After recently signing with a new label, Joey G wasted no time and recorded a new single.
Tan also produced, arranged, and engineered the song, with some valuable help from veterans Dante Tanedo (mixing and mastering), Arnie Mendaros (vocal back-up), and Bobby Velasco (keyboard). Vocal recording was laid down at GIG music studio.
“So now I’m letting you go/ But in my heart you’ll forever stay,” expressed the song’s chorus, “Though you will never know/ The love I have for you I could never show/ Because we’re not meant to be.”
Joey G recently signed with Icons Music, a division of Widescope Entertainment which is among the relatively new labels aggressively producing records and carrying envelope-pushing artists, including marquee names like Sitti and Ebe Dancel.
Joey G’s big move is backed by Widescope president Vic de Vera, the label’s music and entertainment director Neil Gregorio, and his manager-wife Girlie Generoso.
His new label knows the worth of a Joey G. and believes in the depth of his talent and charisma. For them, the voice behind Side A classics like “Forevermore,” “So Many Questions,” and “Hold On” has more fuel left in his tank. In singing covers, Joey G. has excelled with songs like Joey Albert’s “Tell Me” and Labuyo’s “Tuloy Pa Rin.”
Interestingly, the latest lineup of Side A likewise signed up with Icons Music. A possible reunion project between the famous band and its most celebrated lead singer is not in the works, yet, with the twists and turns in the music industry, such is not an impossibility.
