When everyday injustice starts feeling like background noise, Karilyo cranks up the volume with “Reyalidad,” their newest track that slices straight through the chaos.

The song was born from a place of deep frustration. The band’s frontman and vocalist Joshua shares that after being worn down by the relentless stream of troubling local news and injustices, he picked up his guitar and channeled those turbulent emotions through his fingers.

“I started playing random riffs on the guitar and eventually made the main riff of ‘Reyalidad,'” he says. “I tried to express that feeling while playing until the whole song eventually came together.” Karilyo kept the arrangement intentionally simple, almost pop-inspired, to make sure the message stands front and center. “We wanted it simple and somehow ‘pop’ so people could really focus on what the song is saying,” the band explains. And it works: the straightforward delivery makes the track’s bite of social commentary even sharper.

For Karilyo, music isn’t just about hooks or hype. It’s about giving voice to people who feel unheard. “Our goal isn’t just to create good music, but to be the voice of other individuals,” they share. They see themselves as storytellers first, crafting raw, honest narratives that allow listeners to connect genuinely with their music.

“Reyalidad” is particularly powerful because of its duality. It’s both a critique of social indifference and a call to awareness. But the band isn’t interested in dictating interpretation. “We don’t want to limit how listeners will perceive the message,” they note. “Each person has their own experience and interpretation, which kind of gives the song a life of its own.”

The creative process behind Karilyo’s music is truly collaborative. Every member contributes, and every contribution matters, no matter how big or small. It’s this collective spirit that keeps their sound authentic and their message unified. With gigs lined up and stories waiting to be told, Karilyo isn’t just making music. They’re sparking conversations.

And in today’s reality, that’s exactly the kind of music we need.
