One line, and it hits like a memory you weren’t ready for. 

It captures the quiet ache of being close enough to matter in someone’s life, but never close enough to be the person they choose to love.

Manila-based alt-pop band sunburn! returns with their third single, “Kaibigan Lang,” dropping September 4, 2026 under Widescope Entertainment. And this time, they’re exploring a side of love that hurts a little more.

Written by Patrick and his father, Ramil Lacambacal, while listening to the band’s songs on a trip together, the song was born from a realization: while their music had explored the feeling of being in love, there was still another side of it they had yet to confront—the feeling of not being loved back. It sits in that uncomfortable space between closeness and distance, where the person you love is right beside you, just not in the way you want them to be.

That realization also became the next chapter in sunburn!’s own discovery of love. Following “Palagi” and “Wag Kang Bibitaw,” the band wanted their music to become more than individual stories, but a journey through the different emotions and experiences that surround love.

“We wanted our music to not just be a one-off thing, but sort of a journey exploring the themes surrounding the idea of love,” Patrick shares.

Drawing from real, personal experiences, the band shaped the track into something they believe anyone can recognize in their own way. Because rejection, in one form or another, eventually finds its way into everyone’s story. That vulnerability carries into the sound of the track. 

Produced and arranged by Keats and Patrick, with mixing and mastering by Keio de Guzman of Adorable Human Studios, “Kaibigan Lang” was recorded at Wild Grass Studios. The song keeps the sweet, somber quality that has become part of sunburn!’s identity, while pushing the band into unfamiliar territory and giving them room to experiment with a sound that feels more distinctly their own.

For sunburn!, stepping outside their comfort zone is exactly what makes this release meaningful. As only their third single, this release marks what the band sees as a real first step toward discovering their sound, bringing pieces of their earlier work into something more experimental, more honest, and more vulnerable. It may be unfamiliar territory, but it is also where they feel most like themselves.

And maybe that’s what makes it hit a little harder. 

It’s sunburn! at their realest and most vulnerable.
