Veteran Philippine folk singer Noel Cabangon has just released his latest single, “Kung Ako,” under Icons Music, a sub-label of Widescope Entertainment. Joining the label’s impressive repertoire of some of the most beloved OPM artists in the country, the track marks a new era for Cabangon as his musicality continues to evolve. Known by many for his activism and thought-provoking songs that touch on environmental issues, human rights, politics and patriotism, he’s exploring a new side of himself in this latest release.

I’ve been seeing and hearing that this year marks the full return of the recording scene since 2020. There is no official announcement about it, same as we can’t truly say that the pandemic COVID-19 pandemic is over as there is no formal declaration that it is.

Singer Noel Cabangon may be the epitome of a good fellow with an acoustic guitar and a gifted voice. Yet, he himself wants to take that image of his further up for artistic progress. Thus, he is classifying his newfound musicality as "Ampplugged," a play on the term unplugged. By his definition, that's "not really rock but not too acoustic either, and has a hook somewhere."

The man had just signed a contract with their Icons Music label, a special division that carries an elite list of signees whose track record, popularity, and relevance all point to them being deserving of the adjective “iconic.”
