The Philippine music scene is blessed having Side A continuously put out new songs that keep up with the current trends, without ever losing their identity that made them iconic.
That is part of their enduring legacy.
The veteran recording and live act behind classics such as “Forevermore,” “Hold On,” “So Many Questions,” is asserting their career grip each time they drop a new single.
Side A’s “Caught in a Daze,” released last October 20, is a recording bliss displaying the band’s knack for pop and excellent band synergy. It is their latest with Widescope Entertainment’s Icons Music.
Ned Esguerra, whose wife Rhia inspired him to write the song, shared, “The words and music try to convey an individual’s overwhelming sense of happiness being in a living relationship with someone he or she sees as being almost too good to be true.”
With its steadily atmospheric arrangement that rightly captures the vibe of what a Side A classic should be, the song promises to be a good addition to a catalogue that has stood the test of time.
Lead guitarist and producer of the track Levon Cailao laid out the basic structure and final arrangement, as the band records drums and vocals live in the studio, with other tracks being done at home.
Ernie Severino’s drumming for “Caught in a Daze” was recorded under the supervision of another topnotch percussionist, Boyet Aquino, who mixed and mastered the track.
“The vocal arrangement masterfully done by our band leader Naldy Gonzalez is essential to what gives a song that ‘Side A’ sound,” Ned noted.
The tailend of the chorus reflects on how the band has kept its love for making music intact despite personnel changes: “And though life’s not the same as before, I never want to change it ‘coz I’m caught in a daze, and I’m so amazed by you.”
“Caught in a Daze” features the lead vocals of Yubs Esperat.
The feel-good song establishes the power of easy-listening music right from the get go which Side A is known for. It’s a testament to how the band has confidently navigated the music scene that keeps changing and being challenged.
It’s a plus that the group enjoys the support of a label led by a trio of music scene experts, namely, executive producer Vic de Vera, supervising producer Neil Gregorio, and perhaps the country’s most famous A&R coordinator in Ebe Dancel.
Ned further commented, “Working with Icons Music is a breeze. From boss Vic and Neil and our A&R manager Ebe, all the way to the marketing team, they give us incredible trust and support. We are very much excited everytime a new song of ours is ready to be released.”
